BUSINESS TYPE: Registered Charity
SERVICES: Domestic Violence Prevention
The Founder of Safe Haven Community had a brilliant idea to help people escape from abusive relationships, but she wasn’t sure how to go about building a charity from scratch and needed help. After our first meeting, I was asked to design a logo. At the second meeting, I was asked to build a website. At the third meeting, I was offered the opportunity to lead the project and guide her through the steps. Within six weeks I was offered the position of Executive Director and began the most rewarding project of my life. Of course, I accepted!
Appointed as the Executive Director of Safe Haven Community in March 2017. I am responsible for bringing the Founder’s early vision from concept to fruition as a fully self-sustainable service.
I have assisted in defining the service, building the service, it’s policies and procedures, launching and testing the service over a 12 month period. I designed all of the marketing materials, website, social media, newsletters, brochures, flyers and copy-writing. I attended every service visit, presentation and interview for radio, TV, newspaper and magazine. I have helped raise funds to support the operational expenses of the organisation and also helped with partnerships negotiations and the creation of partnership agreements.
Safe Haven Community is now a registered charity and Public Benevolent Institution providing temporary accommodation for people at risk of domestic abuse or homelessness. The charity is now out of the build/startup phase and we are currently working on growth strategies to enable us to increase our reach nationally and provide safety to people Australia-wide.
